I'm still here...

We had another busy weekend and I'm still catching up on work and life stuff, so the blog took a backseat for a few days. On Saturday we went to my parents' place first thing in the morning so Ben + my dad could replace the brake pads on our car. Later that afternoon I went with one of my best friends to check out an option for bridesmaid dresses. We're getting some lovely handmade convertible dresses from Erin, who co-hosted Jamie's shower with me just last month. I am going to be about 6 months pregnant at the wedding so I'm really excited for these convertible dresses and I'll definitely be able to wear it again!

On Sunday I worked and we attended service at church. I interviewed more potential volunteers, which I just LOVE! That afternoon I made dinner for Jacob + Jamie and we got to visit and hold little Justice. Malakai met him for the first time and Ben held him for the first time. Malakai wasn't too happy about me holding the baby. I think it'll be great that we have so many new babies around to get him used to in preparation for our new little one.

{what a natural}

Something not so pleasant that we were dealing with on Sunday was our washing machine going out, while it was full of clothes and water. We had to empty all of the clothes and take them in a big storage bin (because they were soaked) to my in-laws to rewash. Thankfully it's working again and after my cousin looked it over today, it seems like everything is in tact.

On Monday I had the car, so after a day of playing and only an hour nap for Malakai we headed out to meet our new cousin Cordelia for the first time and bring her sleepy parents some dinner. We were sick when she was born 2 weeks ago and didn't want to risk getting her or her family sick.

{so teeny + precious}

I loved finally hearing my cousin's birth story and snuggling little Delia. Malakai was more interested in exploring their house and having the dog lick his face, which is probably why he didn't mind my holding the baby this time.

This morning Ben had to be at work at 5:30am (he usually goes in at 7am). When the alarm went off at 4:30am I was pretty confused...so was Ben, because he turned it off in his sleep! He startled awake at 5am, which also woke me. I instantly felt sick and struggled to go back to sleep. I've been feeling more nauseous than I have thus far. I'm pulling out all the stops: protein rich snacks, hard candies, fruit and lots of water. So far so good!

gag

A friend of mine just posted that she's back to her pre-pregnancy jeans.

She's 10 day's post-partem...TEN DAYS.

I'm so grossed out right now.

updates...

On Thursday evening while I was cooking dinner I started to feel a tightening on my left side from my back around to my hip. I figured it was just stretched ligaments and muscles and leaned on the counter to take some of the weight off. Then it suddenly tightened up was so painful I fell on the floor. Ben rushed in and supported me for a minute. The pain subsided for two minutes and then returned again. Ben immediately called my OB's office and we awaited the call from the on call Doc. About ten minutes went by and the pain didn't come back. I explained it to the Dr. and she thinks it could possibly be kidney stones. She said that I either had passed it or that I would feel the pain again as it passes. She ruled out contractions, and since the pain was gone I just relaxed like she told me to.
Ben looked it up online and apparently kidney stones are more prevalent in pregnancy than any other time. That night I emailed with a gal from the bump who had experienced kidney stones three times! What she described didn't sound like my experience. Apparently the pain I had is similar to when the stone passes into the bladder, but then you feel more pain when you pass it out...which never happened. I have an appointment with our OB on Wednesday and will chat with her about it then.

Last week I officially withdrew from school. I was working on my Master's degree in the evenings. The plan was to take a year off once baby arrived, but a lot of complications with the program basically forced me to leave sooner. I'm glad I did- I feel so much more relaxed and at ease. I feel like I can really focus on getting our house together and getting ready for baby!

On Saturday Ben, my mom, my sister, and I registered at Target. It was a lot of fun, but also fairly exhausting. We were glad to have my mom there to offer advice. Even though it's been 16 years since she was pregnant, she is known for keeping up on things like recalls, safety, and sales. I also registered at Babies R Us (#84492299) and can't decide between two travel system sets. I HAVE to have the crib from BRU though- which is a bummer since the nearest one is two hours away!

The family shower is tentatively set for the Saturday before Mother's Day in May. I have to communicate this to my MIL and have her contact my mom to get the planning started. I haven't had any offers from friends and I'm worried that I won't be able to invited them to this shower because of how many people it would be. My family alone is huge, but we're combining both sides. On top of that, many of my more distant friends have expressed interest in being invited to the shower...

Today Ben and I are home sick. He's been sick for almost a week now and I got his bug as we thought I would. Sore throat, cough, sinus congestion...all the fun stuff! I've been sleeping on and off all day and resting on our lovely new couches.

Vday at the OG

Last night Ben & I went out for Valentine's Day for the first time- he chose Olive Garden (or the OG as our server called it) and the wait was 75 minutes. We waited about half of it in the car. We spent the other half irritated with all the people who were sitting in the waiting area and not offering their spot to the pregnant lady...oh well.
At the end of our lovely meal our server- a particularly spunky young man- made a comment about my little one wanting dessert after we turned it down. I so badly wanted to say "what little one?" and totally make him think that he had insulted me for assuming I was pregnant...but I was good and said something about the baby kicking me all night if I had more to eat. Part of me is still wishing I had been a brat, just to see the look on his face. Maybe next time :)

In other news...I SWEAR that I felt the baby kick from the outside during church today. Must have been a rare and particularly strong kick, and I'm hoping it happens again soon so Ben can feel it. He layed with his hand on my tummy for quite a while tonight after I ate (when bebe usually moves) but I think steak & potatoes put the little one to sleep. It's still early, but I can't wait for him to feel it.

Oh yeah! I also made a random stop at Goodwill today in hopes that they had some secret-fit belly jeans (by Motherhood Maternity) because the Motherhood store didn't have my size and I don't get to wear jeans often enough spend $40 on something that is ill fitting. I found a pair for $5.99! They are in really good condition. I also found a couple of cute tops amongst the mumu's and floral blouses. I was pretty excited about the jeans though because my only ones that fit right now are the low panel jeans from Target and they are way too tight when I'm sitting. yay for cheap maternity clothes!
