Oh Christmas Tree

Our usual tradition for the past few years has been to get our tree on Black Friday at a lot out near my parents' place with my immediate family. My dad brings us our tree with his truck. Since we were sick this year, we had to postpone our outing. With my sister in college, my parents still got their tree so she could help decorate since she was already home.

We're finally feeling better and the weather was dry this weekend so we went to a lot near our house. We were going to try to make it to a u-cut tree farm this year, but we didn't have the time {or the money} so we met Ben's dad at a lot and picked our tree. Malakai loved walking around near the trees and even kept his hat + mittens on the whole time!

And by some miracle, Grandpa was able to get this picture of all three of us looking + smiling at the same time. This never happens. Usually Malakai is a blur or one of us is grimacing while trying to hold him still. Unfortunately, I had ordered our Christmas cards just an hour before this photo was taken. It would have been perfect!

The lot had just had a really busy day, and since we went after Kai's nap it was about 4pm so there were few trees in the 5ft range like we were looking for. So we were able to get a 6ft tree for a lower price. We found a pretty bluish green noble fir pretty quickly and loaded it into Grandpa Ron's Tahoe.

Everything came together quite easily. The tree fit perfectly in the open spot we prepared, and we had no issues getting it straight in the stand (every other year has been a bit of a struggle). Then, we went on to decorate! More on that later...
